この"ハンドルカバー"は
凄い！！です。

取り付けて間もない頃は
"失敗した！"
と咄嗟に思いましたが、
ドライビング技術に欠かせない、
ハンドリングの上達を"向上"?!できる
"ハンドルカバー"といえます。

四半世紀以上も前の話題です。
自動車のハンドルは、
かつては"10時10分"の位置で握るように
自動車教習所で指導されていた時代がありました。
(現在はハンドルを時計に見立てると、
左手は9時、右手は15分の位置で
ハンドルを握るのが"推奨"されています）

昔の車は一部のスポーツ車においても、
パワーステアリング機能が無く、
非常に重い"ハンドル"操作を
必要とした車種もありました。
(当時私が"操縦"していたTOYOTA社の"71型"レビンもそうでした。
後に所有した日産のフェアレディZ(S-130)がパワーステアリング搭載
で暫くの間、とても困惑したのを記憶しています）

あの頃は、ストリートレーサーの間では
軽いカスタム仕様として他社製の(車検対応のものもあった）
ハンドルに換装するのも
"常套手段"でした。

21世紀が20年以上経過した現在。

パワーステアリング機能が
標準装備され
"ハンドル"本体も純正で
良い仕様になったように思われます。

しかし今も昔も変わらぬ
アイテムに
"ハンドルカバー"という
ものがあります。

近年は特にやや面倒なハンドル本体を
換装するよりも、
ハンドルカバーで操作フィーリングを
高めたり、車内インテリアのひとつとして好きな
ハンドルカバーを装着する方が殆どではないでしょうか。

ニーズが多い為か、
非常に多くの種類のハンドルカバーが
巷には流通しています。

私も近年はハンドルカバー"のみ"
を交換する様になりました。

私の場合は1日に30キロは信号機の多い一般道を通勤で
運転し、オフタイムもかなり運転する機会が多い為、
ハンドルカバーの寿命はせいぜい2.3年です。

そのため2千円から3千円くらいの
廉価版をいつも購入してきましたが、
今回は少しだけ良い本製品を選び装着しました。

"痛い！！"。。

本製品である
ハンドルカバーを
装着し、いざ
実際に運転したら、
とても"痛い"のです。

つまりハンドル・トップに光る
メーカーのエンブレム(樹脂製の
銀色のパーツ）がハンドル操作する度に
手のひらが擦れて猛烈に痛い！！

"失敗した！！"
そう思った数日間。

"いやぁ・・ちょっと待てよ！！？"

突如、自分自身のハンドリングそのものに
疑問を持ち始めたのです。

自分の運転は間違っている！?！

惰性運転と悪習慣でいつの間に私のハンドル操作は
猛烈に"いい加減"な癖がついていたのでした！

信号機の多いストリート走行で
渋滞に巻き込まれると、嫌毛がさして
いい加減なハンドリングで誤魔化していた！

面倒くさいからと
片手のハンドル操作の多用。

ハンドルの下側ばかり
ぶらさがる様に握った運転。

ハンドルを片手で滑らせて運転する。
(確実なハンドル操作ができない為に、

お恥ずかしながら、

その数日後。

私は他県へ高速道路を一切使わずに、

短時間のうちに一般道を500キロを走行しました。

念頭にあるのは、
正確なハンドリングを常に意識し続けること!！

自動車教習所でセンセ(先生）に教わった、
標準的な"クロスハンドル"。

速度を維持したままのスピード走行で
多用する俗に言う処の"送りハンドル"。

私は見事に、完全に！、そして完璧に！
ハンドリング技術が上達したのです！！

いや、正確に述べれば"上達"したのではなく、
いい加減なハンドル操作が直り"昔に戻った"ということですw。

何故か、トップに存在す
銀色のエンブレムには
一切触れなくなりました。

経験の豊富な優秀なドライバーは
"ブレーキ”だけではリスクを回避できない
ことを実体験="経験"で熟知しています。

どんなに優れたドライバーであっても
車の稼働時間(量)と事故率は右上がりに
増大するのは自明のことです。

そして、
どんなにセーフティーで自分が
悪くなくても”もらい事故"は絶えません。

最悪値を常に想定しても尚、
"憂事"が突如として
生じる事もあり得ます。

一般道の"宿命"です。

高度なドライビングを有する
一流のドライバーは
"重大事故"において、
ブレーキのみでは
想定外のリスクを
絶対に回避できないことを
知り抜いています。

そして・・
深刻な重大事故に遭遇した事もある
極めて卓越した者は、
このままでは"絶対絶命"で
あると瞬時に悟った際、
同乗者の命だけを救うためには、
時と場合によっては
アクセルをさらに踏み込み、
鋭いハンドリングと
サイドブレーキ操作によって正面や
側面衝突を免れ、
後部座席=バックからあえて
車体を"追突”させることで
衝撃を吸収=軽減することすらあり得ます。

アクセルワーク、
MTであればシフトチェンジ、
そして誰もが常に大事なのは
"ハンドリング"(ステアリング）。

耐久性(耐候性）はまだ装着したばかりで
なんとも評価できませんが、本製品群は
飽きのこないスタイリッシュなバリエーションを
豊富に取り揃えていますし、
"ハンドリング矯正"が出来るというのは
私の個人的経験(修行？ｗ）で
実証済です。
