It has been a very long time since we last spoke.
Before we knew it, the "Obon" season
has come around again this year.
I imagine that Obon in Japan may differ depending on the region,
but nationwide, on August 13,
"Mukae-bon" is observed by lighting a welcoming fire,
from the 14th to the 15th, people welcome their ancestors,
and on the 16th, many people visit their graves and Buddhist altars,
marking "Okuri-bon,"when a farewell fire
is lit to see their ancestors off.
In connection with this, a rush of people returning to their hometowns occurs, and highways
and Shinkansen trains bcome extremely crowded,
which I believe is the main event of August in Japan.
I believe that ※Obon originated from the Buddhist
Ullambana Sutra (Urabonkyō).
※Obon(Festival of the Dead)=The Ullambana Sutra
(It's a Buddhist sutra that explains the origin of the Obon festival,
telling the story of Maudgalyayana saving his mother from suffering.)
Actually, I retired from the company where I had worked for many years at the end of May.
I haven't changed jobs or "left a job"
in a long time, so I don't know what to do.w
I was fortunate to have excellent supervisors, and I did feel that
I could have stayed on a little longer, but when I think about
my personal second chapter in life, I don't think it was a decision
I made too soon.
I had hoped to quietly retire without anyone knowing,
but within just one week of announcing my retirement,
I received more farewell gifts from my colleagues than I could possibly handle.
For the 20 years I was there, the one thing
I always kept in mind at the company was,
"First and foremost, value connections with the people around you."
Now that I have retired,
I finally understand what it means to be deeply moved.
However, so many of the personal
"things I want to do" that I had been putting off until now came rushing at me all at once,
and it was only recently that I even went to "Hello Work"=(the Public Employment Security Office)w.
I still haven't quite gotten used to my "new life"="new self".
That's why it's been a while since I posted an article,
but I expect that I will clearly be uploading more from now on.
I look forward to your continued support!
